Beautiful Game (Not)

So the Beautiful Games (aka football) has kicked of its show piece event, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but for me there is virtually nothing of beauty in the World Cup, especially this one.

Stadium unfinished, mass slaughter and cleanings in the streets, workers killed in the construction of the stadium, corruption and non payment of wages. Ah what beauty …

Mind you maybe it is an appropriate back drop for a tournament with no glamour (we see the players week in week out in the leagues around the world, the champions league etc etc), played by cheats, run by a corrupt organisation.

Fair to play to those that market this overhyped mediocrity as the ‘world best’. The World Cup has thrown up some truly great moments: Banks save, Moore and Pele hand shake stand out to me, but then again one of the most iconic and celebrated images of the World Cup? The ‘Hand of God’ which was cheating!
