Watched The Doors last night for the first time, on the MacBook Pro with the screen mirrored to a 32″ flat screen TV. Unfortunately I could only connect via PC cable (not DVDI or HDMI) so it wasn’t the best quality, but for this film I don’t think that really mattered.
Shot very much in a ‘documentary’ style as if with a home movie camera a lot of the time, it was a really good film with some brilliant acting. It certainly captured the essence of that period (late ’60s) and told the story really well. The music of course was great, but the background to the group and various tracks was really interesting.

Watched Blood Diamond last night. It must of been good as dispite still felling ill I managed to stay focussed on it for the whole 140 minutes, which is rare even when I am feeling well.
I like films that are based on history or a period of time and use a story to help eduacte you on the past. On that basis this did very well, with some good characters and excellent acting. Nice an emotional at the end in a ‘feel good’ way, it only had Sands turning her head to avoid the violence a couple of times.

All Sands wanted to do last night when I got back was chill out and watch a movie so it seemed fair to let her choose which one. I forgot that this meant that she would fall asleep after the first twenty minutes ……
Music & Lyrics is Hugh Grant doing what Hugh Grant does best and as such is an enjoyable enough way to spend 100 minutes. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, which is probably a good job as Sands will no doubt want to watch it ‘again’ at some stage.

I finally got round to watching Hot Fuzz while I was away this time – on the MBP in the hotel room, which was pretty cool. The MBP was certainly a good enough way to watch the movie.
I enjoyed the movie, but not as much as I had thought I would and I think the only real reason why is that the violence was just not necessary. I know it was all sort of ‘black humour’ style but it just left me wondering what it was all about.

Wow what an amazing film! Based on a true story never can one person have had so much bad luck, yet stay so positive. Well acted, with a well told story this was a film that really was just a story – no chase scenes, no sex scenes, just a good old story of overcoming adversity.
Well worth a watch – watch out for the tear in the eye/lump in the throat at the end though!

Have to admit this was a pleasant enough film considering it had Russel Crowe in it, was based in France and was such a cliche it wasn’t even funny!
I don’t think Crowe suits these sensitive roles, and there is nothing innovative in a story line that goes …… rich, selfish man gets left a property in Frannce, falls in love and becomes a new man blah blah blah …..
But it was pleasant enough, had some good charachters, and great sceneary, and Sands enjoyed it!

A couple of plane movies that turned out much better than I expected.
I picked the 3:10 To Yuma as I hadn’t seen a western for a long time, and wasn’t really that worried if I fell asleep. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it for it classic western escapism and shoot on sight stuff, and while not the biggest Russel Crowe fan I really liked him in this movie.

Watched Spider Man 3 and The Flying Scotsman on the flight over last Sunday.
Enjoyed Spider Man 3 but it felt a little ‘old’ as this was the 3rd one, and I thought it lost its way a little in the middle when he had the character change.
The Flying Scotsman on the other hand was excellent. A great ‘feel good’ movie with some great characters based on the true story of a cyclist striving against the odds. Well worth a watch.

Finally got round to watching The Bourne Ultimatum – I told you I wasn’t a avid movie watcher! – and without doubt it as good a Trilogy as you could ever want. I thought that this film wrapped everything up really well without drawing it out or dwelling on anything. Fast paced, good links back top the past and thoroughly enjoyable to watch.

The Prestige is one of the best films I have ever seen, made all the better for the fact that I wasn’t really that bothered about it when Sands said she was going to record it !
In case you don’t know, The Prestige is the third element or part of a Magicians trick. Great acting, great story just a really good film. Will need to watch it again to fully understand it!

Weird, would be the simplest way to describe Children of Men. Had never heard of it, and have no idea why we recorded it, but it was pretty powerful and interesting to say the least. Well worth watching.
Am pleased I watched it – all part of making more effort to watch (and read) things outside of my normal ‘comfort zone’ and to focus on stuff better i.e. just sat and watched the movie, no iPhone, poppng into Study etc.

I had intended to watch The Departed a long time ago but somehow or other always seemed to miss it. Anyway we had a couple of hours to kill in the evening after we had been out for lunch and before we headed out to see in the New Year so finally got round to watching this excellent film. Jack Nicholson was superb, and I particularly liked the ending which I wont spoil but suffice to say it was good to see that noboddy benefited! Well worth a watch and a great film to end the year on!
