I bought a Cube Peloton Pro Compact Road Bike 2013 (Black Anodised – Blue, 62cm (24.5″) 700c) from the highly recommended www.chainreactioncycles.com back in January, and have been really impressed. To be fair I suspect that any new road bike would have impressed me given that my last road back was a 3 gear Raleigh when I was 10 years old!
I have never been a great cyclist but I wanted to find an activity that I would be able to to do in my advanced years so the non weight bearing and low impact aspects certainly appealed. I have chronic long term injuries to my knee, shoulder, neck and back which are all kept (reasonably) under control when I stick to my pilates exercises but the knee in particular was a cause for concern when I bought the bike. I have been very pleased with how well it has stood up to the exercise: I think the pedals and shoes have been a major contributor, as has the lycra (in supporting my knee), and the general quality of the bike i.e.position, gears, weight etc.
I was never into athletics at school but if it has been an option the Triathlon would have been tempting: I was a very good swimmer, have the natural (when not fat) build of a cyclist (strong lower body, puny upper body), and while I have never been a great runner I could plod along for a long time.
I have one very specific goal in mind with the bike, but I am keeping my powder dry on that one for now, and long term I have hopes and plans to use it on a number of projects.
Being compulsive (and a big kid still) I of course had to go mad when it came to buying all the ‘other stuff’ that went with the bike for those that are as anal as I am about these things here is the list:
