Sticky Windows (ShareWare) is an application for Mac OS X Tiger which extends the tab browsing experience to the Desktop. Sticky Windows shrinks your windows into tabs when you drag a window towards the edge of your screen. Providing you with a completely clutter-free workspace. By clicking on the tab the user can show and hide the window. Sticky2-60pix.gif

I think it’s safe to assume that the days of the cold war are well and truly over. But if there ever was a time when World War 3 had the slightest chance of happening it was during Boris Yeltsin’s presidency. Let me explain why!

Being a bona-fide gadget freak, I got really excited about this little device. This is a little USB storage enclosure from Data Robotics. You might say, meh a USB enclosure what so special about it. Well, glad you asked that question. It allows for 4 hot-swappable SATA or SATA II hard drives, which don’t have to be the same size, or manufacturer. It appears on your desktop as 1 drive, that you can expand on the fly. Let say you are running out of space, just swap one of the smaller drives for a larger one, all while your watching a movie, or copying files to the device. According to the manufacturer it works with Windows or Mac OS X. There is no RAID to worry about or configure, because it’s not using RAID of any level. This is a perfect solution for all your media files, movies, pictures, iTunes. Imagine connecting this to Apple Airport Extreme. Instant storage device for everything you need. The possibilities boggle my mind! It’s a bit pricey, at $699.00 US plus hard drives, but after watching this video, I am completely sold. Now to get them to ship to Canada….

Disk Order ($23) makes file management easy, fast and fun on your Mac . It allows to save time on every step and gives you great ‘file-management power’.icon.png

Disk Order is an advanced Finder replacement with built-in FTP client and ability to handle archives like plain folders. This makes file management much easier and faster then it has been before, because now you won’t have to launch separate application to connect to FTP server, to batch rename files, or to extract some data out of .zip, .gz, .tgz archives. All these tasks may be performed withing Disk Order with just few mouse clicks. Also, Disk Order offer all usual features, such as Get Info, Copy/Move/Delete, View, Edit and so on. Disk Order is fast and stable, works great on both Intel-based and PowerPC macs.

I think I have settled on a pretty effective daily workflow as a follow on to my RSS reduction exercise. It is now a week that I have been running with the new system and so far I have to say that I don’t feel like I have missed out on anything, nor do I feel that I am as shackled to my Mac as I used to be.

You are probably all aware of the current election in France of a new president but in the UK there is ongoing debate of who will take over from Tony Blair.

Anyway this morning I caught about 10 mins of a political program on TV and the presenter asked this MP who has a reputation as a ‘character’ who he thought was better between Gordon Brown and Tony Blair. His answer had me laughing out loud as it was something I had never heard before! His answer ……. “as far as I am concerned they are two cheeks off the same backside”.

It’s not often I find an article that combines two of my favourite interests. That being Apple products and cooking.

But this article cropped up on a podcast, and I thought it was too irresistible not to share it with you.

Heston Blumenthal the renowned chef and owner of world renowned restaurant The Fat Duck, is famous for his unconventional cooking methods in the kitchen. But now he has the taken the dining experience to even further extremes.

I have been playing around with dwarfURL for a while now, and it is really growing on me! OK, sorry – bad pun I know but it is a Saturday morning.

Anyone that uses twitter will probably be aware of TinyURL which is great and easy to use.

dwarfURL has a Firefox extension, but you need to add it manually to your toolbar (yep – it took me a while to figure that out even though it says so on the web site!), but the really cool part is the ability to add a password to your dwarfURL link that is only used by you – to see how many people have actually clicked through on the link. A pretty cool feature.

It is fair to say that I didn’t ‘get’ LightZone at my first, or even second, attempt to use it. I put this down to my own lack of editing experience initially, then I thought it was because I was going mad, and then I realized that I just wasn’t in the ‘zone’.

Before we go there though, what is LightZone?

Just got off the phone (well Skype) with my father in Florida. My Mum has just bought a new iPod Shuffle – but they are getting error 1418 whenever they try and restore! They are trying to restore because although that have managed to transfer some music over initially they can’t remove that music and replace it.

I had a quick look on the forum and some guy had posted that apple have said that 1418 is a known error with the hard drive and they will replace it. My folks are heading back to the Apple Store in Tampa International Mall this afternoon (say hi if you see them!).

On Saturday Tim celebrates two years of podcasting with The MacReviewCast. As you know I regularly contribute to both the podcast and to Surfbits, his site for all the great reviews that he provides.

Amongst the prizes that he is giving away to celebrate the two years is the whole set of applications from SmileOnMyMac.

I have reviewed all of their products, and use several of them on a regular basis, so I thought a quick summary may help you decide if you want to enter the competition:
