When your Mac is no longer the shiny new kid on the block, there’s no shortage of ways to extend its useful life. An old Mac can work as a recipe-storage library, for instance, and that antique iBook can be a backup drive

Read an interesting article in Macworld over the weekend about what to do with your old Mac when the time comes to upgrade. So far I seem to have handed mine around the family:

Sands has been the recipeint of my original iPhone and the Mac Book. My father got my original PowerBook and a Mac mini. One thing I did with all of them was Erase and Install the OS X first!

What have you done with your old Mac’s?

Almost every computer user in the country will have access to broadband internet by 2012.

Oh if only I believed the article below in the Telegraph but I don’t trust Government to deliver on these type of promises. They sound good at the time sure, but when it comes to spending the money it is always a budget that is easy to cut.

Too little too late as well! IF they were serious about this they could have got on and done it by now!

The next version of the Bluetooth short-range wireless protocol officially launched this week, promising an eightfold speed increase to boost the low power protocol into the same performance range as WiFi wireless networking, while allowing Bluetooth 3.0 devices to fall back to lower power mode when not actively transferring data.

I read the article below on AppleInsider with a mix of thoughts.

People aged 70 and over are the fastest growing demographic, although they are not keen on online shopping, Internet banking or social networking sites, concludes experts at a global World Wide conference in Madrid.

Young people largely drove the early stages of Internet growth but in recent years the sharpest rise in Web use in developed nations has been amongst people aged 70 and over, experts said Monday.

“Older adults are the fastest growing demographic on the Internet,” said Professor Vicki Hanson of the School of Computing at Scotland’s University of Dundee on the opening day of a global World Wide Web conference in Madrid.

A scientist has updated his status on Twitter, the micro-blogging website, using only his mind.

Oh please no!!! Don’t ever ever let Twitter post what I am thinking!!! I would be in so much motre trouble than I even am!! Great article in the Telegraph, but it has filled me with dread!!!

Adam Wilson posted the 17-character message using a brain-computer interface (BCI) that he is helping to build for people whose minds function but whose bodies do not work.

In the country that invented the Internet, why is Net access so bad?

Seriously you should see how expensive and slow the Internet here is Spain!! Still this was an interesting read on Macworld.

I was also somewhat surprised as my experience of broadand in the US has always been better than in the UK and Spain, but it has been a while since I was last over!!!

The Internet was born and and raised in the United States. Yet—thanks to slow speeds, inconsistent availability, and bandwidth caps—we now lag the rest of the world when it comes to broadband Net access.

LittleSnapper for iPhone—maybe they should have called it “LittlerSnapper”—brings the most essential features of its big brother to the iPhone OS.

My mate Danny Greg works over at Realmac and has been pretty involved in LittleSnapper, so it is good to see such positives reviews floating around like this one on Macworld:

Last December, Realmac Software launched LittleSnapper, an iPhoto-like utility for snapping, organizing, and sharing screenshots. If you don’t always have a Mac available with which to get snapping, though, LittleSnapper is now available in a convenient travel size for iPhone and iPod touch.

Multiple new versions of the Mikeyy cross-site scripting worm spread across the Twitter micro-blogging network over the weekend.

The Register are reporting yet more madness across Twitter, at least one of which is from that irritating idiot that generated the Mikeyy worm, and got rewarded with a job for doing so!!!

If you haven’t already red about it of been infected then grab yourself a cup of tea and have a depressing read! Why do people have to try and ruin it for others? On the other hand, when are Twitter going to figure out that this is making them look really bad!!

As Tony Blair soaked up the applause of an adoring Filipino audience at the end of his latest paid speaking engagement last month, a startling statistic must surely have popped into his head. In the space of just 30 minutes, Mr Blair had earned £183,000 – the same as his salary as prime minister.

This articl in the Telgraph has rendered me all but speachless!! The guy lies about WMD, leaves the country in a total mess, yet makes £15,894,936 since retiring to June 2009!!! To be honest I can’t see what anybody would want to listen to him for, or read his book and as for his money grabbing wfe …

Those devoted to cracking Apple’s iPhone have outdone themselves, breaking the latest beta release of version 3.0 of the OS within a couple of days and well before anyone outside the testing community is even using the software.

Being able to jailbreak the iPhone is a ‘must have’ for me, until they realise that we all really do want QIK on the iPhone!!! I could live without the apps (just) or the ability to use it in different countries ……. Ok I lie, I reckon I will always need a Jailbroken iPhone until Apple get their policy right and just sell them unlocked, on any carrier!!

I use Tweetie a LOT on the iPhone with Twitter. I like it a lot! I use TweetDeck on the MacBook Pro to Tweet. I like it but I know a lot of people don’t like the underlying Adobe Air that it runs on. On Monday atebits will be releasing Tweetie for the Mac desktop, which may well be worth a look at.

If you want a preview of what it looks like Macworld have a good article with images. This is what they had to say about it:
