Mac mini Woes

14 May 2009 40 views One Comment

Heading off to the UK this morning, leaving behind a somewhat sick Mac mini!

It doesn’t want to start. For a while I was getting the ‘flashing folder’ when it powered up, but that has now been replaced with the grey screen, Apple logo and a spinning wheel …….. left it like that all night the other day just to make sure.

I have manged once to get it to recognise the OS X Install disc, but it only showed the two external drives not the Mac mini drive so that wasn’t very helpful. Since then it hasn’t recognised any CD or VD at all, so haven’t been able to try any disc recovery tools either.

Doesn’t power up with extrenal drives etc removed, at Apple/Shift, Apple/Option and C have no effect at all. Have rest the PRAM several times.

So I reckon a new hard drive is required?? If I get a chance I will try and get one in the UK, but for now if you can think of anything, or have a spare hard drive for a Mac mini you want to sell please let me know.

For now I am using the Mac Book to drive the multi-media set up so not the end of the world, and the Mac mini has now data on it so haven’t lost anything.

Just installed a replacement hard drive (thanks to Mac!!) and all seems to be working fine, with the minor exception of the Apple Remote, but I reckon I can live with having to use the keyboard anyway for that!
