Europeans for Fair Roaming Press Release

Yesterday evening, the EU lawmakers European Parliament and the Council of Ministers managed to broker a deal that will allow mobile phone, smart phone and tablet users to enjoy much lower costs when using their devices abroad. The deal came after some hard discussions between the two institutions. The citizens’ initiative “Europeans for Fair Roaming” that has been working on this issue warmly welcomes the agreement, even though it hoped for a fast reduction in prices.

New iPad Screen

The new iPad screen is amazing! The clarity is impressive to say the least.

Just restoring the backup of my old one to the new one so more later but am very very impressed with the screen so far.

Apple sells out of pre-order iPads

I see that Apple are now showing delays of two to three weeks in the US, although the early orders should still arrive on the 16th March, and stores are due to start selling them on that day as well.

Not sure how that will go down though! I imagine that if you went to the trouble to pre-order but found out that you could have got it quicker by going to your local store you would be pretty upset?

Android To Mac Syncing

Have been really tempted recently to look at the Samsung 11.6 Tablet. Had hoped that it would have been announced around the same time as the new iPad but I read today that it is months rather than weeks away.

I have decided thought that I wont be getting one! I have sent the last three or four days getting more and more frustrated trying to sync a Galaxy S 5.0 Tab and a Galaxy S II phone to my Mac.

iPad Shipping In UK

Have seen email confirming that they have started to ship the new iPad in the UK to those that pre-ordered.

iPad Delivery Date Slips

I see the delivery date for the pre-ordered iPad’s has slipped from the 16th March to the 19th March in the US. Probably an indication of demand. So far the other countries appear to be sticking to their 16th March date.

iPad 3 Pre-Order Delivery Date

For anyone pre-ordering the iPad 3 they have announced that the delivery date will be 16th March, but the site does say that if you don’t move quickly they can’t guarantee that … or something along those lines in a much more formal way!

Toyota Prius Sat Nav DVD

Just called into the Toyota Garage locally (El Ejido, Spain) to order a new DVD for the latest maps for the Sat Nav in the Prius.

170€ ouch!!! Will be here Friday, but seems a lot to me considering the cost of a new portable Sat Nav. Not really sure why buying the upgrade actually as a) we never go anywhere new these days and b) we both have Tom Ton application on the iPhones and a Tom Tom cradle in the Prius!

Human Computer

This video is a copy of an 8mm film shot in the early 1960s to serve as a record of some work done in Mathematics by children at Shakespeare Hall, Greatfield High School. It illustrates how they became involved in Binary Numbers.

Oscar’s 3rd Anniversary

It is exactly 3 years today that Oscar came to live with us, and we now cannot imagine not having him. He is our big, loveable boy! Oscar LOVES his food and is always trying to steal the other cat’s treats, but today I happily let him have extra prawns. It is his special day. Happy Anniversary Oscar!

Stopping Iris Is Wrong

I can’t help but feel that scrapping IRIS is wrong. I am (or I guess was) a big fan of the IRIS recognition as I have said before and I can honestly say that in all the time that I have used it I have never had a problem.

There was never anybody else using it, the doors never jammed and seriously how hard was it to look into a screen a line your eyes up?

Situation In Greece

Received this ‘feedback’ from a mate who has just been to Greece which I think gives a really good insight, first hand as they say!

Foreign lorries face £10 daily charge on UK roads

Reading that foreign lorry drivers could pay as much as £10 a day to use UK roads. Will only apply to lorries over 38 tonnes so our little Van wouldn’t ‘qualify’.

As UK haulage firms already have to pay to make journeys in other European Union countries, including France, it seems reasonable that such a charge be implemented, but of course EU rules means that you can’t discriminate between home and foreign vehicles so all UK lorries would have to pay the daily charge, but the UK Government would reimburse the haulage companies.
