A commercial property company is about to develop a nationally protected area that is a haven for nightingales. We have to protect these endangered songbirds and their habitat.
Britain’s biggest population of nightingales makes their home in the woods of Lodge Hill. These treasured birds are now threatened because a commercial property company plans to build on this land. Environmentalists say that the project would result in mass destruction of habitat and wildlife that cannot be replaced, causing environmental damage on a scale not seen in 20 years.
Nightingales are already vulnerable – their population in the UK has declined by 91% since the 1960s. That’s why just last year, the government’s environmental protection agency designated Lodge Hill a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
We can’t let these vulnerable birds and protected land be destroyed for commercial profit.
The plans for Lodge Hill are the biggest attempt to build on protected land since the early 1980’s – letting these plans go through would both endanger the nightingales and set a terrible precedent for future development. It’s up to us to convince the Prime Minister to stand up to corporate interests and protect the nightingales and their habitat.
Tell the Prime Minister to protect the nightingales!
