iPad Initial Thoughts

Well the must have gadget for 2010 has been announced and will be available in the US and UK from March (WiFi Version) and April (3G and WiFi Version) if HRH Steve Jobs is to be believed, and let’s be fair they have a pretty adequate record recently for hitting launch dates. In the ‘good old days’ they used to launch a product at a Keynote, and then announce it was rready to buy straight away.

It has to be said that I have always taken the view that the iPhone is a great consumer phone, but I am not convinced at all that I would have had one if I was still in business. The majority of applications are ‘fun to have’ rather than meaty pro appplications, and the whole focus of the iPhone to me is on ‘fun’. Don’t get me wrong I love it to bits, but the battery life, the unreliability (still freezes up too much), the lack of certain features all mean it wouldn’t be my weapon of choice yet in a business environment.
