The EU Farce

Am struggling at the moment to work out if the current EU situation with the UK vetoing the proposed treaty amendments and in so doing alienating themselves from the rest of Europe reminds me for of Christmas or the School Playground.

English The Official EU Language

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as “Euro-English”.

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”.. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

What Is Wrong With A Referendum

Why don’t governments want to offer referendums. After all they were happy enough to accept the views of the public when they were elected, so why aren’t they prepared to listen to those same people when they are in power?

The UK pubic want a vote on the UK’s membership of the EU e.g. www.voteukoutofeu.co.uk, the Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou wanted to hold a referendum on the latest EU bailout deal/staying in the EU which the EU were opposed to, and Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected calls for Germany to hold a referendum on European unity policy and bailouts.

If Britain left the EU, what would happen to expats?

Many expats say they’d love to see Britain leave the EU, but the consequences could be enormous.

MEP’s vote for £5.7bn Budget Rise

More fuel to the fire for the likes of the Vote UK out of EU campaigners with the headline this morning that Euro MPs confirmed yesterday they want an inflation-busting £5.7billion rise in the EU budget.

The 5.2 per cent increase, at a time when individual European states are having to cut public spending, is more than double the maximum approved by EU leaders earlier this year and would take the budget above £112billion in 2012.

Is the EU going to ban children from blowing up balloons?

Yet more signs of the creeping madness that is taking over the world today, as reported on the Full Fact Site

With the Conservative party leadership indicating that they did not support an ‘in/out’ referendum over the UK’s membership to the EU at last week’s conference, the influence of Brussels on British law has again found itself in the limelight.

Today the Telegraph was among the papers to report that the European Commission was now planning to ‘ban’ a smorgasbord of children’s’ toys

Ex-PM wants revised UK-EU relations

Couldn’t help but be impressed (yet again) with John Major at the weekend on the Andrew Marr show. Spoke a lot of sense, communicates really well, and has a presence and style that is way beyond the dreams of any of today’s so called leaders!

The Voice Of Russia have covered his interview in some depth and with great accuracy if you didn’t catch it and fancy catching up on what he had to say:

EU Referendum Reality Bites

Interesting article on the EU Referendum Reality Bites Blog drawing attention to the increases in taxation and council charges which are adding to the anticipated £2,000 per year a typical family in the UK is set to lose through inflation and low pay.

What is terrifying though is that our masters – in central and local government – have not joined the dots. People who have less money have less money to pay in taxes and charges. Further, they are likely to be more resistant to increases in charges, and are less resilient when it comes to dealing with financial shocks.

No in-or-out EU referendum, says David Cameron

Interesting article in the Independent where Cameron bluntly dismisses the prospect of an in-out referendum (albeit with the hint that he may agree to a referendum if the crisis in the eurozone leads to a new treaty).

His rational for this position: he claims to know what the country wants, despite never having asked the country the one simple specific question, or indeed taking into account the recent Vote UK out of the EU YouGov poll which clearly indicated that two thirds of the people that voted for the conservatives at the last election want out of the EU, as do the majority of the country.

Vote UK out of EU Campaign Announcement

Interesting to see on Gaunty’s site that “there will be some massive news placed on the new EU Campaign site (www.voteukoutofeu.co.uk) at midnight tonight.”

More EU Madness

Are you ready for this?

The European Parliament is backing a bill that would force national sports teams to have the EU’s flag on their kits!

You can blame the Spanish for this madness as it was Spanish centre-right MEP Santiago Fisas Ayxela who drafted the proposal: “The European Dimension in Sport”.

Websites ‘breaking consumer laws’

More than half of websites selling electronic goods were breaking European laws aimed at protecting consumers, according to an EU investigation.
