Jay Adelson Interview

Unfortunatley not an interview that I did, but I thought you might be interested in it, primarily because it appeard in a UK paper so I am not sure how many of the readers overseas will have seen it?

No apologies – I have copied the interview in full for once, and provided a link to the original below. I have to say I found it an enjoyable read, although I am not really sure that “social networks …. control the information”

Regular Reader – All Interviews

For those of you that missed them the first time round and can’t be bothered to go through the Vaults, or for those of you that are interested in patterns, here are all the interviews in one post.

Daniel Greg

1. As this blog covers a lot of Mac related products what was your first Apple product that you bought?

My MacBook that I am using to this very day – I got it I think a week after they upgraded the iBooks so it is a Core Duo 1.83GHz, pretty much base model and I upgraded to 1.25 gigs of RAM. A credit to the Mac is how this handles pretty much anything I throw at it!

DEVONthink

This is the third of the features that I will be writing as part of the DEVONtechnologies sponsorship of my segment on The MacReviewCast.

Don’t forget that as a listener to the show, or a reader of this blog you can get 25% off any of their products – just look out for the link in the sidebar.

Just to be clear this is a feature not a review. As I have in effect been paid for this I am not giving you my opinion or the application a rating. I am giving you the information on the application so that you can make up your own mind.

Regular Reader – Andrew Rudkin

Last but by no means least it is the 12th and last week of these interviews, so the ‘honour’ of answering the last set of questions goes to Andy.

1. As this blog covers a lot of Mac related products what was your first Apple product that you bought?

My first Mac was a G3 iMac which I bought as a basic home web browsing machine back in 2004, since then I have only needed the one upgrade to a G5 20″ iMac back in the summer of 2005 when I went freelance and started working from home. I have been used Apple machines since 1994 when I started my first design course and am very proud to say that my only ever experiences with the windows world is when I have help family out with issues on their PC’s!

MindManager Pro 7

It is over a year since I reviewed MindManger 6 and at the time I said:

This isn’t because it is a difficult application to either learn or use, as it isn’t, but because I couldn’t decide if I found it useful or not.

I finished the review questioning if I would still be using it in a couple of years, and the answer to that is no, partly because I forgot I had it and partly because MindManager Pro 7 came along which is significantly easier to use in my view. Oh, and I guess my own circumstances have changed and I am also now far more comfortable with the Mac so all in all I have found using MindManager Pro 7 are far more productive experience.

Week 10 and Tom takes his turn at answering the questions

1. As this blog covers a lot of Mac related products what was your first Apple product that you bought?

Well the first Apple product that I, myself bought was an 20GB iPod 4G. I loved that iPod, for the first time I could go out listening to my music! I remember it being one of the first things I bought with my own wages from my summer job.

Regular Reader – Wayne LeFevre

Week 9 and it is Wayne’s turn to share some information with us:

1. As this blog covers a lot of Mac related products what was your first Apple product that you bought?

My first Apple product was an iPod nano. I had used a old mp3 player from iRiver before, with a whopping 256Meg of memory, then, a friend of my daughters showed me her iPod mini. I thought that was the coolest thing around, so for Christmas 2005 I asked for, and received, an iPod Nano. I never thought that I would need anything more than a 4 Gig player, after all I was upgrading from 256 Megs. Now I really, really want an 80 Gig!
After that it was all halo effect. I got a Mac mini. Loved it, booted the PC and never looked back. Now I’m typing away on a 24″ iMac alongside a 24″ Dell LCD. Nirvana.

Regular Reader – Paul Stamatiou

Week 8 and it is Leopard day, so who better to hear from than Paul Stamatiou, who will be standing lin line later hoping to get a T-shirt!

1. As this blog covers a lot of Mac related products what was your first Apple product that you bought?

My first Apple product was a Macintosh Centris 650 that my sisters and I used when we were much younger. While we had a DOS box before it, I remember learning how to type on the Mac and playing lots of Mario Go Fish. Although, that was bought by my parents so I’ll have to say that the first Apple product I purchased myself was a 2nd Generation Apple iPod 10GB. It was the first iPod to have a touch wheel instead of the wheel that actually moved on the 1st Gen, which I actually thought was cooler.

BitClamp Preview

BitClamp ($20) is the first application from regular reader Daniel Greg’s new company Crimson Sky Software.

BitClamp is a very easy to use, elegantly designed application, that simply allows you to encrypt and decrypt files.

What is Encryption?

Encryption is one of those things that you probably don’t know that you need until it is too late. It is also one of those things that you don’t really want to know about as it tends to allude to secret or sinister file content, and at the very least it appears on the surface to be a maize of algorithms, options and processes.

TextExpander 2

TextExpander 2 ($29.95) from SmileOnMyMac is an application that hopefully you already know all about.

TextExpander saves you countless keystrokes with customized abbreviations for your frequently-used text strings and images.

If you do then this review is really just a reminder to check out the new features in version 2, in which case you can skip down past the next bits, and check out the New TextExpander 2 features.
