Apple claimed 91% of the revenue market share for computers costing $1,000 or more in June. While NPD’s sales numbers are limited to brick-and-mortar retail stores, the data shows a remarkable continuation of a trend that has been in place for several years now. While Apple’s overall unit market share remains below 10%, the combination of Apple’s growing market share over the past several years, refusal to compete in the low-end market, and declining Windows PC prices have led to Apple’s domination of the “premium” price segment.

Among the torrent of news is the announcement that Safari 4 ships today, boasting “unparalleled speed,” especially when compared to IE8 (this is Apple talking!). Included in the new browser is a full history search, featuring a cover flow view of the user’s browsing history (as well as a full spotlight search).

Apple as early as this week could announce the release of Mac OS X 10.5.7, a seventh maintenance and security update to its Leopard operating system scheduled to deliver over a 100 minor tweaks and bug fixes.
According to AppleInsider after providing developers with weekly betas of the software for nearly two months, the Mac maker in recent days cranked up the frequency of the pre-release distributions, which is more often than not a telltale sign of an imminent release.

As you may already know, DEVONtechnologies is working on a major new release of their information and document manager, DEVONthink. While the company still ships minor updates for all editions of DEVONthink and its little sibling DEVONnote, all really new functionality will supposedly appear in version 2.0. Again, we had the opportunity to talk to Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies, who shared some more details of the upcoming 2.0 release with us.

Have just done an interview with Eric from DEVON technologies for Tim’s show this weekend. He was telling me about some of the stuff that will be in 2.0:
“At the moment, DEVONtechnologies is heavily working on the long-promised version 2.0 of the DEVONthink product line. Quite a few features scheduled for 2.0 have already been delivered in 1.x such as Spotlight compatibility, but many other features that involved major changes of the database structure had been shifted until this major overhaul and are now taking shape. Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies, shares some information about what is coming with us.

As you know DEVONtechnologies sponsor my segment on The MacReviewCast, so it is good to see the updates that they have been promising for a while:
DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.1 adds support for version 2.x of the Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager, deletes the original files after they have been successfully imported through OCR, and allows to resize the input panel for PDF meta data. This makes it easier to identify the scanned document on screen. The embedded OCR engine has been updated to the most recent IRIS engine. Both editions of DEVONthink Pro also come with new scripts for importing Adium, iChat, and Second Life chat logs, BluePhoneElite SMS messages and BluePhoneElite call logs. Additional scripts back up the database to the iDisk or JungleDisk and archive flagged news articles from NetNewsWire.

The reason things have been a little hectic around here this last week is ……….. Saidi! She is the cat that we have just adopted. She is one of several that Sands has been ’sorting out’ with the sponsorship money that I raised. Not sure of her age, but she has had two sets of kittens, the last pretty recenty (don’t worry the kittens are all going off to a kitten sancturary soon), so she is a little older than Moreno and as you can see very similar indeed. Could even be his mother or sister.

Meant to post this up yesterday when Gary pointed it out to me (thanks Gary) but life has been a little manic here over the last couple of days! I am not sure what I think to this if it true. The fact is I couldn’t really care less. I reckon that regardless of if it takes place or not we will setill see Logitech and Microsoft products in the market, just maybe not so much overlap on the peripherals. I hope they keep the Logitech brand though as when I come to replace my keyboard and mouse I am not sure I could accept one that had Microsoft stamped all over it!!!
