I wrote recently on my Almerimar Life site about a de cluttering project that we had started. This was (and is) aimed very much at the physical side of life; the vast amounts of stuff we have accumulated over the years but either due to changes in lifestyle, or technological advancements, just isn’t really needed any longer:

  • The 10 piece dinner service when we last had a ‘dinner party’ 10 years ago!
  • The 8 mobile phones that I have, as well as the N95 8GB and the iPhone that I use

There have been a number of articles recently around the fact that 80% of twitter accounts have less than 10 followers. While some have blamed Spammers and other ’squatters’ I reckon it may be a lot simpler than that ….

The stats that have got people debating are:

Followers
Accounts with 0 followers: 29.4%
Accounts with 1 to 9 followers: 50.9%
Accounts with 10 or more followers: 19.7%

Followings
Accounts following 0 people: 24.4%
Accounts following 1 to 9 people: 43.4%
Accounts following 10 or more people: 32.2%

When I first thought of setting up the Monarch Airlines Petition I had a look around for a online service that would allow me to integrate with the site, so that people visited the site at some stage in the process. Of all the ones that I looked at (and there aren’t many that provide this option at anything like a affordable price!) iPetitions seemed perfect on first impressions.

Oh dear what is it that they say about first impressions?!

I have always jailbroken my iPhone. With the first generation I had no choice as it was the only way that I was going to get it to work here in Spain, but jailbreaking it was a pretty complicated process that I remember filled me with a certain amount of dread at the time. I remember being particularly nervous upgrading from 1.0.1 to 2.0 and jailbreaking it, and did indeed run into some difficulties.

When is knowledge enough to be useful or enough to be dangerous?

I have been asking myself that more and more these days. As I flick through the RSS feeds for the umpteenth time that day seeing the same ‘news’ on multiple feeds, and I listen to Sky News doing their ‘all the news in 15 minutes every 15 minutes’ bit for the 6th time in a row I think I know what is going on. I have heard it so many times, read the headlines until I can quote them backwards and standing on my head (while drinking a glass of wine on a good day!!).

6 of the best – a phrase that will bring back memories for a number of the UK readers I imagine!!!

A friend of Sands recently returned to live in the UK and left a bag of books for us to read/sell at on eof the many local books sales that they run in the pubs, or basically do as we wanted with.

I decided to treat it as a lucky dip!!! So far the 5 books that I have ‘dipped’ have all been really great. None of them are serious or meaningful books – all very simple summer reads:

No I haven’t suddenly lost my mind overnight, or moved to some backwater place where they don’t have Macs!!!

What I mean is, do you remember the company Apple Computers? You know the one that used to be Apple before the Keynote in 2007.

‘Back in the day’ it seemed that everything was under their control – the product, the packaging, the price etc. In fact about the only thing that people griped about was the price variations between countries, that was a bit ‘win some, lose some’ based on the exchange rate. Oh, and some gripes about what was and wasn’t available on the iTunes store from country to country, but looking back maybe that was the start of the consumer era?

I seem to have worked my way through a number of books since I last posted on books read. At least one was a recommendation from Gary, one was a book that I picked up at a books sale for the strays here, and the rest are all off Sands shelf!!

A Quite Belief In Angles by RJ Ellory is based on the morbid and depressing subject of child deaths in the deep south of the US back in the ’60’s. At first I was unsure, but over time the main character and the story started to grip me. The ending was very well done as well!

Hands up who actually uses Stacks in Leopard. It is one of the features that I keep trying to find a use for as the theory of keeping less in the dock is appealing, but it is just so ugly and difficult to use ……..

I am a huge fan of Overflow and it sits in the middle of my dock neatly set up with folders for Audio, Photos, Video, Tools, Writing, Microsoft etc so I only have to have the apps that I open most days sat in the dock. Keeps the dock nice and tidy, and is really easy to set up and use.

First up this is a 180° about turn I know but there is a reason for it, honest! When I first started blogging I added Google Ads, I mean who wouldn’t? The logic was really simple – it doesn’t cost a reader anything to click on them, and the blogger doesn’t pay to have them so all you ‘need’ is every visitor to click on a Google Ad each visit and you are laughing, if they click on 2 or even 3 you are starting to make serious money.

To understand this article you need to understand my approach to photography, and what I am aiming to achieve. I have little doubt that everyone has different objectives, priorities, reasons and more importantly outputs for their photography, and depending on what they are will determine which applications that you use most regularly.

I take photographs to satisfy two objectives:

  • To support the blogs that I publish
  • To satisfy a personal desire to get better

As we head out the door of 2007 it is as good a time as any to do two things; to take a look at the top 5 purchases that I have made in 2007, and to thank you for all your support, encouragement and enjoyment throughout the year.
