Balsamiq Mockups

Using Balsamiq Mockups ($79) feels like you are drawing, but it’s digital, so you can tweak and rearrange controls easily, and the end result is much cleaner. Teams can come up with a design and iterate over it in real-time in the course of a meeting.

I am in no way a Software Developer, Designer, Engineer or any other type of Software person at all. The closest I ever come is when I have an idea that I want someone to develop, or get involved in a projcet that includes the development of a new application.

LittleSnapper arrives for iPhone

LittleSnapper for iPhone—maybe they should have called it “LittlerSnapper”—brings the most essential features of its big brother to the iPhone OS.

My mate Danny Greg works over at Realmac and has been pretty involved in LittleSnapper, so it is good to see such positives reviews floating around like this one on Macworld:

Last December, Realmac Software launched LittleSnapper, an iPhoto-like utility for snapping, organizing, and sharing screenshots. If you don’t always have a Mac available with which to get snapping, though, LittleSnapper is now available in a convenient travel size for iPhone and iPod touch.

Apple near ready with release of Mac OS X 10.5.7

Apple as early as this week could announce the release of Mac OS X 10.5.7, a seventh maintenance and security update to its Leopard operating system scheduled to deliver over a 100 minor tweaks and bug fixes.

According to AppleInsider after providing developers with weekly betas of the software for nearly two months, the Mac maker in recent days cranked up the frequency of the pre-release distributions, which is more often than not a telltale sign of an imminent release.

Screen Flow

Thanks to Don McAllister from ScreenCasts Online for pointing me in the direction of Screen Flow, the $99 ‘Professional Screencasting Studio’.

I have a requirement to show a web site that I designed in an environment where there will be no Internet access, and the site was built running a server side script and so won’t play on a computer normally.

Solution was fairly simple, create a screencast style video of the site, a walk through tour, that could be shown (on both a Mac and a PC) i.e. Quicktime format.

DEVONthink Pro 1.5.1 Updates

As you know DEVONtechnologies sponsor my segment on The MacReviewCast, so it is good to see the updates that they have been promising for a while:

DEVONthink Pro Office 1.5.1 adds support for version 2.x of the Fujitsu ScanSnap Manager, deletes the original files after they have been successfully imported through OCR, and allows to resize the input panel for PDF meta data. This makes it easier to identify the scanned document on screen. The embedded OCR engine has been updated to the most recent IRIS engine. Both editions of DEVONthink Pro also come with new scripts for importing Adium, iChat, and Second Life chat logs, BluePhoneElite SMS messages and BluePhoneElite call logs. Additional scripts back up the database to the iDisk or JungleDisk and archive flagged news articles from NetNewsWire.
