    Basically a preset is a file that stores previous actions that you have done to a photograph.

    So, if you have done 4 ‘things’ to a slightly fuzzy picture and made it look great you can save those ‘things’ in a preset file.

    Lightroom has a list of Presets on the left hand column that you can click on when in Develop mode and it will automatically apply the 4 ‘things’ to that picture.

    Sort of – only way more detailed in that a prset saves the layer adjustments, curves, tone changes etc etc.

    Take a look at the Photoshop post to see an example (although that was done in Photoshop not Lightroom) the concept is the same.
