Let Battle Commence

Today I weigh 219 lbs. That is pretty much as heavy as I have ever been, but I am refusing to get depressed about it! I accepted that things were going to get worse before they got better and I have enjoyed my ‘last days of freedom’ over the holidays!

But now the hard work begins! I am probably carrying some excess fluid from the Red Bull and Vodka’s last night on top of the John Smiths pints, but give or take I want to lose 30 lbs. At a realistic 2 lbs a week that is 15 weeks (see I can do the Math!).

I am going to use this blog to record progress and motivate myself. I will make a weekly post here in the Quick Bits and will update that regularly/daily and will then move onto the next week etc.

Initially the objective is to get the momentum going in the right direction in terms of establishing a workout pattern and eating habits.

So small steps and all that – the target for the first week is to get to 217 lbs, run at least 4 times, and do my abs and other exercises and weights at least twice.

Best of luck with that Chris. I have similar ambitions this year to be honest but have not got as far as blogging about them ! ( To be honest one of my ambitions this year is to blog more regularly ! LOL )

Interested to see if posting about this actually provides a real incentive, will be following.

    And you!

Day 1 was good. Lots of small improvements:

    – did some light weights
    – went for a walk
    – did a few abs
    – coffee with no milk
    – 3 smaller meals and only fruit to snack on.

Last thing I want is to push too hard too soon and implode. This month is all about establishing the foundation. As I never drink in January I should gain a bit from that!

Let me know how you get on

Unfortuntaley we are having our winter so the last two days have been very wet and windy. It will blow over in a day or so but so far haven’t been able to get out running or on the roof to work out.

I have done my abs a lot, and have eaten really well (mainly because there is no food in the house) and at the moment I have that vague detoxing type headache, which is probably a good sign as all the crap from over Christmas may be leaving me 🙂

Mentally am feeling good about it all so far!

End of Day three and the healthy eating is going really well, but no exercise due to rain and wind.

Hopefully that will be gone by the morning and I can get out for a run. May even have a weigh in in the morning to see if making any progress 🙂

So this morning I weigh 211.5lbs which means I am going to be down to my target weight in just over a month, or that my body has lost the fluid from New Years Eve and detoxed a lot of the crap from the cakes, crisps etc over Christmas.

Wind has died down so no excuse not to run today!

Went for a 5km run. Not too bad at all. Pretty good day eating wise as well – no option not to really as only healthy food in the house, no cash in wallet, and haven’t been out yet this week.

    Working well as well 🙂

Glad things are going well Chris.

Did the weekly shop today and spent some time planning 3 meals a day as I’m sure my ‘not-eating ’till evening’ habit is messing with my metabolism. Sorted out simple cereal breakfast, low fat, low calorie lunch and enough fruit and veg to ensure 5 portions a day and 60% veg in evening meal. Also bought fruit/green tea for during day as i drink too many sugary, white teas on an average day and want to cut this out.

Did a calorie check on food and looking at 150 cals breakfast, 200 cals lunch then evening meal on top of that.

Running kit is sorted for Monday evening return to 5 mile circuit – grabbed some new Asics Running shoes yesterday as my old ones have seen 12 months use and felt very un-cushioned. Also planned a set of abs exercises to do after each run.

Have been checking out simple software to log runs etc and tried several demos – settled upon Runners Log as it is simple, tracks the miles and gives an indication of calories burnt (which improves in accuracy as you update your weight).

Finally revamped the ‘running’ playlist for the Shuffle.

    So, bring it on Monday!

Excellent. Good to see you are sorting out your eating habits. You seem very well organized. Maybe that is the approach? I just sort of go for a run rather than plan one.

I used to let my running shoes wear down really badly before changing them, to the point that running hurt, but now I swap more regularly and always have a replacement pair ready and waiting.

No run or anything for me yesterday. Was really busy during the day and it was Saturday! Will probabl run, cycle or walk today though.

Another day sat in front of the Mac. Went for a walk into the marina so got some exercise of sorts, and have eaten well again. Will be interesting to see what I weigh in the morning ……..

I sort of feel that the real drive starts tomorrow. This was very much a ‘ease myself’ in type of week with the weather and the desire to get a really good start to the month on the work front.

Probably a good way to start – i always go crashing in too fast and good practice always points towards easing into training regimes.

Did a proper abs work out last night- first time for months, in fact years really. Ouch! Today feels like I have given birth ‘Aliens’ style!

Raining out but not too hard and although over xmas break my weight has only gone up 2lbs I wasn’t impressed with the reflection in the mirror this week so going out for a run.

Not sure if it’s impressive I kept weight down or lack of exercise and too much food replacing muscle tone with insulation!!!

Did run. 5 Miles – 40.17 mins. Felt amazing for first 3.5 miles, then came back down to earth with a bump and really struggled last 1.5. Stupid really thinking I could steam off, but got kind of caught up with new iMix. Amazing how music can make a difference to mood etc.

Will enter in Runners Log then short abs session before big sleep for back to school tomorrow!

Do you do abs on consecutive days? Remember few years ago reading that abs can cope with consecutive training whereas most muscle groups benefit from 48hr gaps between sessions? Any ideas?
