COVID-19 Diary: Week Six

Week Six, everyone OK? Going stir crazy yet? Finalised your decisions on how your life will be different post COVID-19?

I am going to start something a little new on the blog regards COVID-19, so with this diary post am just going to focus on how we are finding life within the social distancing guidelines.

We are all well. My parents are coping really well with what is in effect self isolation with just weekly visits from us to deliver any food that hasn’t been delivered online, pick up meds and clean the house. They are struggling to get a a Tesco delivery slot and as they didn’t use Waitrose before they can’t get any slots with them so we are doing a combined weekly Waitrose shop online, and we then take their stuff up to them. They have used online delivery for frozen quality meals for a while and they get a weekly delivery from them, and they have started to use the same online butcher from Scotland that we have used for over a year now so they are pretty much sorted. Nespresso deliver their coffee so now the milk shortage is over they are happy!

We deliver the food and clean the house on a Saturday, which happened to be mothers 81st birthday so we went wild, broke out, and the 4 of us and Charmin had a BBQ and a cake!

I hate to think how they would cope if they were not already internet savvy, as in addition to the above they are already au fait with WhatsApp, Skype, Amazon, Prime, Alexa, Netflix and the such so they are not finding life too hard.

Sands mother is also coping really well, primarily because of the excellent carer Carol who has been simply brilliant so far. She sees her for four hours a day, usually 2×2, and just having someone to cook with, watch TV with, potter round the garden has been great for Joan. Sands does a Waitrose order each week as Joan is the other end of the spectrum when it comes to technological know how ….. she has none!

As for us nothing really to report. Life is not that much different for us. Of course no sport, no friends and family coming round and shorter walks with the dogs, but our life is really based around being at home with our animals anyway.

I guess the initial ‘novelty’ has worn off, which basically means not drinking so much and have no sweets or chocolate in the house. This week we will finish the list of household chores we set ourselves, so in May we will set ourselves another challenge …… more on that later.

Stay Safe, Be nice!
