COVID-19 Diary: Sport Without Spectators (Audio)

Is sport really sport without spectators? For the fan it’s more than just a game: Bragging rights after a win, downing a few pints with your mates after a loss, sharing the anticipation during the week with friends and colleagues.

Feels like the “powers that be”, led by Football have started to chase the dragon (money) too much and have forgotten the fans.

I think they would do well to remember that as fans we want to be involved, but we will also have choices and priorities to male post COVID-19 like replenishing bank accounts, and there will be other industries desperate for our cash as well …

Tough as it will be on some the fairest solution is surely to null and void any season or tournament that had started, and to delay the start of any new season until it is safe and practical to do so. I certainly don’t think sport should go ahead if it requires police, NHS resources etc whilst they are still required by the country to fight COVID-19
