I have said before that I doubt that very much will change post COVID-19 as the pressure will be on to return to ‘normal’ as quickly as possible. I mean seriously once the weather turns to winter are those that have started cycling really going to carry on!?
There is much talk of the New Normal, but I think the current approach will be: Current – New Normal – Old Way.
I think a better approach is: Current – New Current – New Normal.
We have seen the benefits to the environment in recent months, and people have managed to work from home where previously this was deemed non optional. We have found ways to entertain ourselves, we have eaten and drank indoors, dare I suggest we have exercised more.
I am far from convinced enough effort is being put into creating the New Normal ….
Could we only allow 3 days a week to be spent in the Office, with the other days working flexibly from home? Do the Offices have to be ‘our company’ offices or could they be Office Hubs nearer to home? Should we only allow use of cars the roads 5 days a week? Can we incentivise on-line shopping, turn the High Streets into hubs for the more vulnerable and immobile (reduce the need for care homes). Can we live with less sport, but pay more, do we need as many flight, holidays, restaurants …….
On a personal note I am hoping that our New Normal is based around more time at and using what we already have: pets, family, home, friends ….
We will focus more on our fitness and health, get more involved in some good causes, spend more time with less people, and hopefully continue to enjoy our sports, concerts and theatres.
Keep Safe, Be Nice!
