I recently had the opportunity to try out TweeterLine ($109.99 current sales price) on the Mac. As it is a Windows only product ‘at the moment’ that involved using in my case VMware Fusion. The developers wanted some feedback on how well it worked on a Mac this way, and are considering making a Mac version of the application if there is sufficient demand.
So how did I get on?
TwitterLIne or TweeterLine?
There is a bit of confusion over the name to say the least!. The application when loaded calls itself TwitterLine. The URL for the site is http://twitterline.tweep.net, yet as you will see when you visit the site the application is called TweeterLine
I am going to call it TweeterLine throughout this post!
What Does It Do?
There is a full feature list at the bottom of this post but in a nutshell it allows you to autofollow up to 1,000 people a day on Twitter. The 1,000 limit is the current Twitter imposed limit on anybody. It provides you with a number of options:
- After you navigate to a followers page you can collect the users, autofollow them, and send them a message from the list provided (see below)
- After you navigate to a followers page you can collect the users, but NOT follow them, but send them a message from the list provided (see below)
- After you navigate to a followers page you can collect the users and auto follow them without sending them a message
I suspect option 3 will be the most popular not least because if you used the application to follow say 1,000 people in a day I am not sure your existing Followers would really want to see 1,000 messages from you, plus you risk a spell in Twitter Jail at that rate!
As they say on their site the technology is such that it does not use the Twitter API so you do not get an issue with the 100 API an hour limit either.
Does NOT use the Twitter API. The ONLY software in the world like this that 100% does not use the Twitter API! Emulates a Real human on the computer! Nobody has ever lost an account due to our software. We are Twitter Friendly!
Easy To Install On The Mac?
Yes …… when I remembered how to use Windows!!! For Windows users it is just a normal installation, for me as a Mac user it felt like going back in time to some old fashioned best forgotten days! Once installed it is easy to use but I couldn’t say it was the most attractive UI I have ever used:

But that really isn’t the point as once you have set the application running you really aren’t going to sit looking at it, unless you are remarkably sad! So as an interface to easily set up the options and start the process going it is fine.
An application for Spammers then?
Would be hard to say no to that, but I suspect from what I know about Spammers the ‘big boys’ will have come up with their own solutions. I reckon there are a number of other reasons people would use it though:
- If you had a HUGE ego and wanted to collect twitter followers just to attract attention then the $109.99 (current sale price) would no doubt be worth it.
- If you had a petition or good cause that you wanted to push out to people as quickly as possible as the immediacy of the message would exclude more ‘traditional’ methods of building a following
- If you were a company that was new to Twitter and wanted to get some momentum quickly (although the 2,000 Follow limit still applies remember)
- If you were an agency or individual who had contracts to help clients establish a Twitter presence (hint …. that is what I have been looking at it for!)
So TweeterLine is all I need to get a lot of Followers?
Absolutely NOT! It is a useful tool, that is remarkably easy to use once you get used to it, and does the job it sets out to do really well. BUT unless you engage with your Followers, Tweet interesting content, and participate in the community that is Twitter Land you will find that it is a one way street, with you Following everybody and noboddy Following you, but that is a subject for another day.
TweeterLine is a solid application. It will have it doubters and critics saying it is a ‘short cut’ but I think they would be wrong. It has the potential to do that for sure, but it also has some really interesting options as well, that for me make it a useful application to have in the tool bag. Now of course a Mac version would be really very nice guys!!!!!

Follow Me And I Follow You ?

Interesting, but do you just end up with loads of tweeters who don’t listen to your tweets? isn’t it better to build up a quality list of people that follow up out of interest and that list has value? I know it takes time, but isn’t that the point? isn’t 100 engaging followers much better than 100,000 followers who don’t notice your tweets? Or am I missing the point?
All depends on what people want to use Twitter for, and that is the real beauty of Twitter.
If you want to build a ‘small’ bunch of Follwers that you communicate with on a day to day basis then you are absolutely right.
If you want to use Twitter to market your products and services to a wide audience then this applocation is great as it is a designed specifically as a marketing tool.
If you wanted to build some initial momentum as a new Twitter user with say a ‘good cause’ to promote it would be a great application as well.
I agree with all the above, I guess in the case of Ranieri (PR agency) we are looking to utilise a ‘select’ twitter list of media, so no need for it to be thousands of followers, just key influencers.
Exactly!!
But suppose you had a client that wanted to make a big impact in a short period of time with a new product or event and they needed to boost their Twitter following …..
agreed, but that wouldn’t come under PR, that would be more general B To C marketing…we work as an agency because we are focussed on our strengths, starts to get diluted when we start to talk to end user/customer rather than press. Willing to do it, but needs to be ‘sold’ differently as we have no experience, or little experience in ‘customer’ response for this type of thing…
I predict that more and more companies will want that kind of help. As the number of social media/networking options increase then they are going to want to be involved AND wont have the time to manage them all and their core business.
Hello,
