Mission Impossible III

Not a big fan of Tom Cruise, although sort of liked Jerry McGuire for a bit, but have to say that as escapist action movies the MI series have been pretty good, and Mission Impossible III is a solid enough movie to fill a few hours. Totally implausible of course – but I did kind of like the raised keyboards, very cool!!!!

I’m expecting my copy of MI-III to drop through my letterbox tomorrow or Monday. Even if I only rate it average, I don’t mind since it only cost me £3. 🙂

I recently picked up another recent Tom Cruise movie – Collateral. I’d heard about it when it came out but never really fancied it. However, I decided to gamble another £3 when I saw it at that price. It sat in my to-be-watched pile for about a month and I finally watched it a couple of weeks back. It turned out to be a gem – I really enjoyed it, rating it 4 out of 5. Recommended.

Collateral I liked to an extent – but more because of Jamie Foxx it has to be said. The Last Samurai is on the hard drive in the ‘to watch someday’ folder.

Based on your rating I will tag it as a priority though 🙂

Yup, Collateral was definitely a two-hander. I didn’t mean to imply that I felt it was simply a vehicle for TC.

As far as giving The Last Samurai a priority tag is concerned, I’m not sure about that. But I would say that you could definitely remove the it’s-just-another-Tom-Cruise-flick tag. 🙂

Looking back, I see I also rated his “War Of The Worlds” at 4 out of 5. It was another one picked up cheap in a sale, which turned out to be better than anticipated. I don’t remember now since I think it was a year ago I bought it, but I may have initially gone for it as much for the fact that it was produced by Spielberg. That and the fact that I have always loved the Jeff Wayne original! 😉

For the record, I’ve looked back over the collection and the only other TC movie I appear to have is “M:i-2” – and it only gained a distinctly average 3 out of 5. I just wanted to mention that in case anyone was beginning to think I am a big TC fan!

It is funny but I am not a TC fan at all but do seem to have a lot of his films:

    • Top Gun
    • Jerry McGuire
    • The Firm
    • Collateral
    • War of the Worlds
    • The Last Samurai
    • All the MI Films

I really didn’t rate War of the Worlds at all though 🙁

Jerry McGuire and The Firm are two marvellous films, as are A Few Good Men and the impeccable Rainman.

For me, War of the Worlds stunk the place out. Typical hollywood to ruin a good story by overdoing it.

Personally, I can’t stand Cruise. Somehow, though, I end up liking a lot of his movies! His last one I really liked, Lions for Lambs. Of course, I liked Top Gun, even though I thought that his acting in that one was horrible. (Of course, it came out while I was in the Air Force, so I really dug the planes.) The race car movie just left a bunch of bile in my mouth. 😉
