Product Review: Masuri StemGuard

I know!! When I reviewed the Masuri E LINE Steel Helmet I explained my reasoning behind not adding the StemGuard, but subsequently I asked around and the consensus was to get one, if I didn’t find it too uncomfortable.

Having decided to get one I wanted a yellow one, but after extensive research I found out that they stopped making them in any colour other than black in 2019 although many sites INCUDING Masuri still advertise them in yellow which is a tad frustrating – well it was to me!

My Review

Kudos again to Elite Lids for both price and service (delivery time).

The Sten Guard fitting instructions are clear, but read carefully. Mine came with the clips inserted so didn’t need to remove any foam, but they had put them in the wrong way round. No big issue but checking upfront will save you some head scratching!

I was not sure what to expect really but they are light, they fit well, but they seem a little more flimsy than I was expecting. This is not an issue as they patently do the job, but I wasn’t really expecting so much movement.

Comfort wise no issues for me, but as I have said several times, I have a pretty upright stance so there is no rubbing on the neck, in fact I can’t feel it at all. They provide a number of different lengh connecting straps that go across the back of the helmet, and these help tighten the protective sections so well worth trying them out, they also effect how noticeable the guard is to wear as they draw the guards in towards your neck.

Of course you probably think that you have choice: if you have a Masuri helmet you will have to have a Masuri Stem Guard and they only do one – did I mention they no longer do it in yellow? – but that is not the case! The Shrey Neck Guard 2.0 fits my Masuri helmet so factor that into your helmet decision.
