As we head out the door of 2007 it is as good a time as any to do two things; to take a look at the top 5 purchases that I have made in 2007, and to thank you for all your support, encouragement and enjoyment throughout the year.
The first is almost impossible, the second is easy so let me start with that! I have really enjoyed the blog this year, and that is almost all down to you. I would be telling a lie if I said it was all down to you as I find the challenge of writing, the experience of reviewing and the satisfaction of the continuity it provides my life very rewarding. But at the end of the day it is your support of the blog via email, comments IM, Twitter etc that have provided the most satisfaction. Without doubt I wouldn’t have spent as much money this year without your help, but I would have wasted more. By choice my life is very solitary here in Almerimar but you help keep me sane and in touch with the real world. For all of that, and more, I thank you.
It is embarrasing when I look back over 2007 at how much I have bought. I have been fortunate in getting to this stage in life, but it is a good job that I have started working again, not least because it keeps Sands off my back over the spending. I am not going to do anything as crass as to list the purchases. Most you will know about, a lot you couldn’t care less about I am sure! Looking at them all though and picking 5 has been interesting not least because of the reasons behind the choices.
So here in no particular order are my Top 5 of 2007:
Nikon D80 – because it has opened up a whole new world of interests and friendships to me that goes well beyond the actual technology involved
Dual Screens – these started out as a “they will cool” purchase, but I can’t stress how much they have improved my efficiency and increased my productivity
Logitech MX Revolution Mouse – for anyone that thinks a “mouse is just a mouse” give one of these a try. Not only does my hand feel great after a full day writing but I am so much more efficient and productive with it
Logitech deNovo Edge Keyboard – for comfort, ease of use all day, and the huge flexibiity it gives with the programmable keys another productivity and efficiency godsend
AppleTV – I resisted this for a long time, and wish it had a MUCH bigger hard drive but for ease of use and doing a job remarkably well I love it.
So that is it, another year nearly over. We are heading down into the Marina to see what is happening, check out a few bars and maybe get some food – basically we have nothing planned which is just the way that I like it.
Whatever you are doing have a good one, and I will ‘see’ you in 2008.
Wonderful ‘Top 5’. Mine would be New House (well old bungalow!!), iPhone, Samsung 21″ widescreen monitor, Iomega 160Gb Firewire external HD, Yak Breathable Paddling Salopettes (for Sea Kayaking).
Thanks for all you have done with the Blog and podcasts etc Chris – Happy New Year to you, Sands, Moreno and all the other contributers/readers.
Happy New Year Chris. Your blog is one of the ones I read regularly and thoroughly enjoy. Wishing you all the best in 2008 – I’ll try do leave a few more shouts in 2008.
NIcely done. I must extend thanks for the great read over the year. Since most of you already celebrated their new years, I wish you all another great one to come, and may it be the best of the past, and the worst of the future.
I don’t have top 5… not really, or maybe the lenses I got for my Canon….and other accessories…. but the top, the number 1 would be the Epson P-3000 photo storage/viewer. I use it constantly. Best little portable hard drive/photo viewer.
You are welcome 🙂 Plan is to do a lot more of these types of articles this year – see the Skribit post.
Happy new year Chris – and Sands! And all the rest of the gang too… 🙂
iPod Nano
Switcheasy case to protect the Nano
Apple’s new bluetooth keyboard
Apple Airport extreme
A really cool LED desklamp (only £15 from B&Q)
I’ve been thinking about this over the past few days and can only really come up with a top two:
– Sigma 10-20mm lens (for my Canon EOS DSLR)
– 24″, 2.8GHz, 4GB RAM aluminium iMac
Maybe I should resist temptation less this year?
I am going to try and resist temptation for two years! In term of big ticket items that is. I want to stop “adding” and have a long period of use before going on a “replacement” approach.
Will do a seperate post on this theory soon!
You’ll need to come up with a cool name for your theory – something catchy like “chaos theory”, but obviously not that one. “Control theory” is more appropriate, but sounds a bit dull. Hmmm…
Non Additive Time Binding Replacement Theory
Didn’t I mention the catchy acronym? 🙂
Spending Control And Restraint Theory? Nah – that’s already been used in a different context.
