C is for …… Considering my League Cricket future, 1 more social game, then a winter of fitness, coaching, netting, golf and …. shooting?
2024 Season Week Twenty Five: September 16th – September 22nd
Last weeks diary got me thinking. I know I am meant to think before I write them!
My brain has kicked into overdrive over the “quality not quantity” debate, specifically about my own cricket.
My priority moving forward is Staffordshire Seniors, initially the 60s First XI, then inevitably the Second XI and then (hopefully!) the 70s.
When I returned to playing I had no idea that County Cricket was an option, or indeed how much charity/social cricket there is to play.
I was surprised that League Cricket was an option through Dvelopment Teams, and I have been guilty on feasting on these unexpected options.
My body suffered, and I don’t think my game has really benefited.
My musings are over how best to develop and prepare myself for Staffordshire Seniors: play league cricket on a Saturday where the nature of the games means I could do a lot, or nothing, and the nature of cricket means I could have a good day or a poor day, or ….. I net more, train more, spend more time with family and play a few Sunday games and put all my energy into Tuesdays Staffordshire Cricket?
I will ponder over the winter, but my inclination is to leave or reduce League Cricket and concentrate on developing players through Sunday NBCC and Development Games and leave competitive Cricket to Tuesdays.
Truth is this thought is helped by the fact that I am enjoying the extra time at home on Saturdays (and the credit that gives me for more golf), and the quality of games and enthusiasm of players in the NBCC Sunday games.
Fitness wise the focus is still stretching and rehab, but I am walking faster and have started on the indoor bike and the extra golf is all contributing to some steady weight loss and better fitness.
As for the shooting …. I have identified a short list of guns, found a couple of clubs to check out, and downloaded the Firearms Certificate application form.
