Got to Dubai OK. This time I flew from Almeria to Manchester and then direct to Dubai. This involved a 6+ hour wait in Manchester which has to be one of the most boring and poorly serviced airports in the world – at least Terminal 2 is. It was really really poor.
Anyway having got up at 7am Spainish time on the Sunday I arrived in the apartment in Dubai at 9am Monday (6am Spanish time). The apartment is still having a lot of work done on it, but at least is habitable and thanks to a neighbours ‘generosity’ WiFi access!!
Hung around for a while then headed into the office for a couple of hours, only to stop there until 6pm (3pm Spanish time) before heading back to the apartment for a quick shower, shot of vodka and then out for a realy great Italian meal with friends. Got back to the apartment about 10.30pm (7.30pm Spanish time) and hung out for a while. Found a site that promised to deliver stuff within an hour so tested it out by ordering a iPod Nano. Sure enough arrived within the hour, and paid cash on delivery so really impressed with that service.
Crashed around midnight (9pm Spanish time) by which time I had been up for 38 hours straight.
Slept well, woke up about 9am and am just catching up with some emais before I take a shower, grab some coffee and then head into the office.
Already this trip feels so much better than the last one!
Have they finished the building work at Dubai airport yet? they were transferring passengers from planes to terminal by bus last May, took about 30mins to get to terminal, past huge emirates fleet of aircraft. No shortage of retail entertainment at that terminal!

Sods law – lost WiFi in the apartment for 5 hours last night. Came back on at midnight, so was up to 3am ……
I thought Manchester was meant to be good as well. My parents use it all the time to fly to US and rave about it. I must have just got the crappy Terminal 🙁

Alcohol consumption is low, but diet is really poor so far and no exercise at all yet!
Wow time has flown by, which is goodhich is good compared to how it dragged last time. I moved into a friends apartment on The Palm over the weekend and we even managed to buy some groceries so the last 3 or 4 days have been pretty ‘normal’
Haven’t been out for a good drink yet at all. Work has been manic but amazingly interesting and touch wood may have made a bit of a breakthrough. Just anaylyzing the work today to see if we can figure out the value of continuing it.
The golf starts here in Dubai on Thursday (you can see the golf course from our office window) which is the day I am scheduled to fly out – may be tempted to stay a bit longer!!!
Think we have some tickets for the practice day tomorrow which would be good to at least grab a couple of hours in the afternoon …..
