Facebook

I have just had a look on Facebook at the last four schools that I attended (1981, 1982, 1986 and 1988) and there wasn’t one name that I even recognised never mind knew. Not that it took long to search – two of the schools only had one page of contacts and the other two had three pages.

If anything was needed to remind me that my generation was so NOT the Internet generation that must be it!

That’s weird – WordPress seems to have just eaten my last comment. Let’s try again.

Maybe, maybe not. You and I are pretty much the same age. Maybe your former classmates just don’t buy into Facebook – I know I don’t.

By way of comparison, I recognise lots of names over at my primary school on Friends Reunited. A smaller percentage at my two secondary schools, but that’s probably to be expected given the increasingly big catchment areas.

That is no doubt correct. I don’t know that many of my old peer group that are at all into blogs, social networking or to be honest even email.

I keep having to remind myself that my generation didin’t even have computers at college!!!

Facebook is a train wreck of a site. I’d not be surprised if there are lots of people put off by it’s interface. I had to laugh last week when John Dvorak ranted about it on TWIT or was it Mac break weekly? I was totally with him on that

I agree – I find the interface really confusing, but that may be because I use it so infrequently. I just don’t really have any use for it – but the same can be said for so many of these Web2.0, social networking type sites and services.

We seem top be going through a period that people think things are great because they can do xx rather than actually having a need for xx to be done (or done better)

Glad that someone else shares my point of view on facebook. I was worried there that I was too old/stupid to understand the concept. I guess I’m not the only one. 🙂
