G-Force ($20 Gold, $30 Platinum) is a music visualizer for media players and can also visualize auxiliary or “line-in” audio. G-Force features fast anti-aliased visuals, millions of possible effect combinations, savable and scriptable effects, video file export capabilities, and unparalleled expandability. G-Force is designed to entertain you on its own, but there are many ways it can be customized and extended.

SoftSkies ($20 Gold, $30 Platinum) is a music visualizer and screensaver that produces mood-enhancing animated cloudscapes, rich with color and realistic motion. SoftSkies features professional color design, patent-pending cloud animation, dynamic image scenery and fine-grained visual control. SoftSkies is ideal for relaxation, music appreciation, and enhancing the ambiance of any social setting.

These applications certainly fit in the ‘just for fun’ category and their relevance to you will solely depend on how you listen to your music. For those of you that, for example, have your Mac & iTunes fed into a flat screen TV so that you can kick back on the couch and chill out to your favourite tunes this will work great for you as you can watch some very cool and mesmeric art at the same time. Well you certainly can with SoftSkies as the visualization is very laid back and relaxing, G-Force, as the name would imply, is somewhat more vigorous.

Personally I generally have music on whilst I am doing something else so I very rarely have the opportunity or inclination to use the visualization option. I preferred G-Force, found them both fun and easy to use. The novelty did soon wear off, but that is a personal observation, the choices and depth of options was excellent. Having recently added a lot of extra album art it was cool to see it integrated into both these applications.

For me these are applications that I could live without. I will use them from time to time I guess, and when we get Sands a flat screen for her den I can see her using them more but they don’t really fit into my life style. If this is your sort of thing though they would be worth a look as they are put together really well.
