Well that may be a slight overstatement but I am just loving the news coming out of France that the iPhone will be released on the 29th November on the Orange network AND unlocked – yep that is right!!!
You remember all the conversations I have had with Tim about the way we do things in Europe, and how I felt that Apple would have to accept that the world was bigger than the US, well this is a pretty good day in my opinion!!!
The only shame about it is the fact that the UK didn’t have the guts to stand up to Apple as well, but I imagine that a few trips across to France may be being planned at this very moment!!!
What will also be interesting is the way that this effects the rest of Europe – I can hear it now, all the Human Rights issues i.e. I live in Europe why can’t I have what the French have etc etc
Fun times ahead, not least on Saturday when I speak to Tim!
Very interesting – like you say, shame the UK couldn’t pull the same deal out of Apple. I hadn’t heard the news about it being unlocked over there but did pick up it was available on all their tariffs which was a step up from other countries.
I am currently looking in depth at what O2 is offering and to see if I can make a straight switch on my current contract or have to wait for the current one runs its course. As much as O2 will want iPhone customers, i can’t believe they would release someone from their current contract just because the iPhone is out. Not sure how this worked in America. maybe someone could let us know?
The O2 tarriff sucks – 200MB of data and 60 hours of Cloud WiFi)
That tarrif is a killer for me. I will have an iPhone on the 9th but I may have to unlock it out of necessity with that plan.
Its a disgrace that they could call it “unlimited”.
Hate to say “I told you so” but I do recall our discussion at the time it was announced – said then it wasn’t a good deal!!!
iPhone shmiphone. Unlocked ipod touch is the only way to go.
OK everyone bookmark this page!!! I remember a certain someone saying they would never want an AppleTV as well 🙂
Let’s just wait until they have an iPhone in Canada and the SDK is open to developers.
I needed appletv for support reasons 🙂 Since no one knows when iphone will arrive in Canada I had to settle for the next best thing. I like to keep my phone separate from my PDA.
Also I have every right to change my mind, Mr. iPhone-doesn’t-interest-me-at-all 🙂
Yep we are a right pair of girlies always changing our minds!!!!
