Not something I would normally post about, and not something I condone *grin* but it looks like the iPhone has been hacked already.
I have no idea what they are saying in the instructions so it isn’t exactly an easy Hack. The question I have is how long before already hacked iPhones turn up on eBay and how much you reckon they will go for?
$1,000?
hmm, some people really need to do something useful with their time. I don’t see the point in getting your iPhone to be an interactive shell. Seems like a waste of money to me.
Oh well. I don’t think this will pose a huge security risk, as you obviously need to mess around with the iPhone itself for the shell to become accessible.
I think there would be a larger market for an activated phone that was de-restricted so that you could use it with an existing SIM card.
Hi Chris
I first spotted this story and discussion of it earlier this afternoon at Slashdot and had a glance down some of the comments. It appears that it is not an interactive shell at all – at least, not like the bash, csh, tcsh, etc that we are all aware of from OSX’s Terminal. Rather, it’s a boot loader, which is a different beast.
This is not saying that it couldn’t lead to the “discovery” of how to access a proper shell – but they’re not there yet.
It’s a normal thing. It’s a device, and it’s going to get hacked. Does that mean that Apple will loose money, nope, ATT will loose, but their business does not revolve around the iphone. So it’s a good thing for us the consumers. I’m all for it. So hack way guys, hack away.
