Learning To Play Poker

This is probably very embarrassing, but I have never played poker in my entire life! The closest that I have got is a Poker run or two with the Harley guys back in the UK, and the odd game of Poker Dice with my mates here in Spain where I have relied on a combination of luck and alcohol!

A Poker Run is pretty cool though – you visit 5 bars and in each bar draw (if that is the right word) a card. At the end of the day the team with the best hand wins. Simple, especially when all you have to do is hand in your card and someone tells you if you have a good hand or not.

So why am I interested in poker all of a sudden?

  • I want to run a Poker Run here in Almerimar so thought I should know the rules
  • The guys I play football with now all play so I kinda feel I should be able to join in
  • It seems to be so huge now that I am starting to feel fed up being left out!

So where to start?

Hello Goggle!! “mac poker guides” seemed as good a place as any to start as I wanted a site that would give me a number of options as to where I could find the ‘best’ site to learn on line, or maybe download an application to my Mac, and in general give me some confidence before venturing out into the world of cigarettes, whisky and lose woman (didn’t I explain what the real attraction was!!)

3rd or 4th on the natural SEO was a promising looking headline ……. Mac Guide – Mac Poker from a site called Mac Poker

Initial thoughts? That it was a Apple site! The use of the Apple logo is intriguing. You are either going to love the associated comfort that it provides or feel that it is a little misleading.

As the site clearly states at the top:

MacPoker.net is your ultimate guide to using a Mac to play poker online. Check out our Mac tutorials, exclusive poker bonuses and poker site reviews!

it would be unfair to say it was misleading, but it does have an huge similarity. It even has some current Mac News to read if you want a break from the amazing amount of information on Poker that it provides. OK it may not be amazing to you seasoned players for me it was a real eye opener, not least because it is not in the least what I expected. The site has Mac Tutorials, Mac Resources i.e. other Mac related sites, and information on sites where you can play Poker online with your Mac or even download to your Mac. I got somewhat intrigued by the site as it seems to do a great and rather unique job of really giving its target community (the Mac user) more than your average site. For a professional site it manages to come over very much as a friendly blog type site, which I found refreshing.

There is obviously a serious side to the site and the Five (5) Top Poker sites that it currently recommends all had attractive offers to entice the Mac user in and phrases like “Play with the pros at Full Tilt Poker!”, “Party Poker schedules tournament times that are convenient for European players, so don’t miss out on your chance to strike it rich” and “Non-U.S. players, take advantage of free money and tournament entries at PokerRoom” would tend to indicate that it caters for a huge variety of standards and preferences.

For me though I need to get to grips with the rules but MacPoker.net is certainly bookmarked for when the time is right, and I suspect a number of you will find it interesting.

Interview with the Owners

I was intrigued to the background of the site so contacted the owners with a few questions:

Q. Why are you targeting the Mac community specifically?

A. Because there are more and more mac poker options available and it’s a great community that we can get in on on the ground floor. We also own a good domain for it.

Q. The site shows a good knowledge of the Mac ‘world’. Would I be correct in assuming that you are Mac fans/users yourselves?

A. Yes, two of the company owners have Macs and a number of employees own Macs as well. We all like them and we have eventual plans to convert many more of our employees’ computers over to Macs. We love the software, hardware, etc. They’re just an incredible company and we are excited to help Mac users figure out the best ways to play online poker.

Q. What would you say was your uniqueness i.e. if you had 3 points to pitch in an elevator what would they be?

A. We’re very experienced in the poker world, having spent the last 4+ years promoting online poker on the web. We know more about the different poker sites, poker bonuses and various types of offerings than almost anyone else. We also have some great translation and customer support resources at our hands so we can offer the total experience to Mac users once MacPoker.net is fully up and running.

Never played poker, although I have a vague idea on the rules. Not really into gambling, but like you said there are variations on the game, like the Poker Run. That actually sounds like fun. Maybe I should actually brush up on the rules and see what is so interesting about this, since I actually seen poker championships here on tv.
