New Year Resolutions

I suppose it isn’t exactly unique doing a New Years Resolutions post, except for the fact that I haven’t made any and haven’t done so for some time. I am more inclined to take stock of where I am and where I want to be on an ongoing basis these days, than stick to one specific ‘all change’ approach.

That said there are certainly things that I want to focus more on in 2008, so you may call them New Years Resolutions, I tend to think of them more as ‘next steps’ along the path of life.

No surprise to regular readers that getting fit and shedding a bucket load of weight is my main personal focus. To acheive this all kind of individual aspects of life have to change, but that is what I like to do – focus on a bigger objective.

I also want to concentrate a lot more on my photography, and the main way that I will do that will be on some ongoing projects I have in mind for Almerimar Life. You can expect to see more photos cropping up on this site as well, and if you have any suggestions let me know via Skribit (Mac I know you wanted me to take a photo of the waves, but I can’t remember what exactly so you can use Skribit to remind me)

On a similar vein the one overriding objective I have for the year is to do less and to do it better. I think I have spread myself too thin (well not physically) over recent years and I want to add more depth to what I do. Examples would be less reviews, but in more detail. Developing the photography beyond ‘just an interest’. Spend more time reading and discussing books (ditto movies).

In terms of the site I am pretty comfortable with where it is at the moment. I would love to get more people commenting and contributing to the debates and that is my focus more than going for more readers just to get the numbers up. I have said before and I will say again, I am not competing with the ‘Fan Boy’ sites and I really don’t have any interest in a load of ‘yeah awesome’ comments. What I have at the moment is great – just more of them please!

On the work front I am pretty much back to full time! I have one contract still to discuss that I would like to take on board, but I have a lot of unbelievable opportunities both intellectually and financially this year and my number one priority beyond all else is to focus totally on them.

I still have very little desire to travel, although I can see a number of business trips may be unavoidable, as I fundamenatlly am really happy with life here in Almerimar with Sands and Moreno. I am really looking forward to working with Sands on Almerimar Life as we haven’t worked on a project together for a long time and it will very much be our lifestyle for the year.

Anyway, thought I would share these plans with you as you will no doubt hear about them throughout the year! What are you planning for 2008?

Like you, I’m not into making special resolutions. I never kept them when I was younger and simply gave up on them in latter years.

    Goals for this year? Hmmm.

    – Get out more?

    – More photo trips… (including more exercise)

    – Post more “articles” at my own site. (I’m not quite sure why I’m not really motivated to do that just now. It’s not as if I don’t have plenty of photos I think could be good source material. Maybe that’s partly it – I’ve got too much(!) and it’s a little overwhelming?

    – One thing I do want to try to make a bit more impact into this year is to get more into program development. I’ve had an idea for an app I’ve been thinking about off and on for several years that will provide the target to aim for, so it’s not as if I’m in search of a goal.

Bah Humbug to new year resolutions. Never seemed to be able to keep any anyhow, so just gave up. No resolutions on this side of the ocean, but I will try to get better at photography, and learn more photoshop and lightroom stuff. Yes I’m lazy, but happy 🙂

I need to post more pictures. That and lose 15 pounds.

@Gary and Chris, Do you think that the “blogoshpere” is going through a cycle? It was new, neat, everybody did it. Now it’s in a decline because people are getting bored with it? Bloggers are getting tired of the work vs. return ratio? Not enough feedback?

Just curious… (and trying to spark discussion!)

No formal resolutions here either. But….I have been planning for months now to actually start learning the ins and outs of Lightroom and CS3 instead of just “fiddling” with them. I got a copy of Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System book for Christmas which looks like it may be just the kind of (relatively) simple, guided approach I need.

I also need to actually EDIT the pictures I take – I think I’ve deleted 5 in the past 3 years. Its easy to take them, it just takes time to pull out the good ones.

Sands has posted a couple of articles on New Year Resolutions over on AlmerimarLife which are pretty funny.

@Wayne – probably!!! However, this is exactly what Skribit is for. If you want me to post an article on something add it to the Skribit plugin 🙂 Give it a title and a brief description and if enough people vote on it then I will write about it. Cheers

2008 is the year of health, organisation and pretty much everything on Zen Habits for me!

I highly recommend the Zen to Done ebook.

Happy new year everyone, by the way.
