Product Review: Gray-Nicolls Cloud Catcher Cricket Bat

Now that the season has started practise session wise I can review an item that has been in my kit bag for a while, but I have not had the opportunity to use.

I would suggest the Gray-Nicolls Cloud Catcher Bat is well worth adding to your kit bag,

My Review

First time I have ever used something like this – we always had to use a bat – and to be honest I was a little self conscious about having one, but quickly saw that I was not alone, they seem fairly popular.

They are certainly light and easy to use, once you get the hang of actually hitting the ball hard enough! Being of a certain age my arm strength is not what it used to be so not having to use a full size bat is a blessing, although a downside is that its too easy to hit it beyond the throwing capabilities of many a club player. Best focus on height really, although you are going to be hitting it a lot higher than in a game.

The technology is amazing, you can use it for hours and nit get tired, which is more than could be said for team mates and it has a pretty funky look to it.

I found it worked best swinging from around knee height and ‘dropping’ the ball onto the bat from about 12 inches. Don’t over hit, but don’t be afraid to give it a firm smack.

Manufacturers Product Description

To transform fielding sessions, Gray-Nicolls presents the Cloud Catcher to mimic the high catches you will receive in matches. The Cloud Catcher is a must-have accessory for a coaches kit bag that will ensure you are match ready.

Made with high-density foam, the Cloud Catcher allows you to hit the cricket ball extra high, testing your fielders with match-like catches in practice.

The coach won’t need to be a brilliant player to achieve the desired distance for the hit – the foam is highly receptive and will fly, even if you mistime the hit.

So whether you have dropped some catches the week before or you want to pre-emptively practice in pre-season, the Cloud Catcher is an essential component of a coach’s kit.

  • Enhances catching and fielding skills
  • Constructed from high-density foam
