Reluctant as I am to be ‘forced’ into a workflow by Steve and the boys at Apple I think there is a certain inevitability that I will be in the next couple of weeks.
Assuming that I get a 3G iPhone (no idea when they will be available here outside of Madrid – and yes they had the same activation issues as the rest of the world) AND I can restore, upgrade and jailbreak the existing iPhone to 2.0 (I saw that it had already been jailbroken but not ‘out officially yet’) then as Sands and both have .me accounts I reckon we will need to figure out the best way to utilise them, not least getting some sense out or having a .mac and .me email address …….
So if you are going through any changes, got any ideas or suggestions, or just want to lock yourself in a dark room and hope it all goes away you know the drill …………

I ‘gave in’ and upgraded (or whatever the phrase is) to MobileMe on the MP, MBP, iMac and MB and all went OK as far as I could tell.
Of course I have had nothing but
showing ever since!!!!!
Can’t say I am impressed at all with Apple over the last few days, but nor am I surprised. You will recall (pat on back coming up) that I did question if Apple really knew what it was doing entering the consumer business!!!!
I think this has been a great example of corporate arrogance at its ‘best’. The really sad thing is that I doubt Apple will do anything different next time as I don’t see that many people will actually change their views or buying patterns over it!!!!!
I don’t get the whole .mac thing. Still less why it would make you change your way of life, apart, that is, from having to stump up the cash to pay for it haha. It all seems a bit “Emperors new clothes” to me.
We both had .mac accounts and found it pretty useful for syncing between our Macs – mail, calendar, notes, text expander snippets etc.
Is a bit of a luxury for sure, but saves time.
.me effectively gives us the equivalent of a corporate enterprise system – real time syncing between any Mac on the account (so MP and MBP for me and iMac and MB for Sands), and now it has push email and will sync with the iPhone/iPod Touch without having to connect to iTunes.
Again in isolation a bit of a luxury for sure, but as part of a move to a more online/shared data solution which is the workflow change that I think we will look at, it is pretty cool – when it actually works!!!!!!
I have never really been into the online storage, documents, To Do lists etc but I think that may well be changing.
Same as Chris. I find that .mac is great if you have multiple macs…. as in main + laptop. Makes it nice to have everything in sync. Now adding my touch to the mix, makes it even more worth the money. The iDisk makes it nice to transfer files between remote systems, which is a god send in my line of work, especially when I travel. So yes it is useful. For a person with only 1 mac, I don’t really see an advantage though.
I will be trying Chronosync with my iDisk to see if I can get some filemaker databases synched up between my macs…. we’ll see how well that works… or doesn’t.
There is one thing for which .me appeals to me. It’s potential for cool or funny email addresses eg.
areyoulooking@me for Robert de Nero would be good
So you must have had fun yesterday with the .me domains?
GoDaddy said I had purchased 6, and took my money. Then they said 3 had already been purchased …… and so far haven’t refunded me the money!!!!!
The ones I ‘lost’ where chris.me, yes.me, and mememe.me
Yeah I am powerful!!!! 2 hours after that last comment and a email to Go Daddy I have a refund, of two of the three domains so making progress!!!!!
All 3 refunded and a phone call from Go Daddy that I am not going to return as it means me phoning the US ๐
Wow. I looked up those .me accounts on godaddy. They are really, really proud of those addresses! $$! (Or รยฃ or รขโยฌ or whatever the case may be.) They look to be about twice as expensive as a .com address.
Yep, I even got a letter from the President apologizing!!!! Well a standard mail shot to be fair ๐
