Every summer, the city of Calgary holds a rodeo and festival that draws businesses and visitors from across Canada. Many of these events, like concerts and cook-offs, are lighthearted activities that the entire family can enjoy.
But there’s a dark side to the Calgary Stampede. Every night of the festival, horses are forced to race while pulling a heavy wagon – an incredibly dangerous event that has already resulted in the deaths of two horses this week!
Sadly, this is nothing new. For years, these dangerous races have been held every summer under the guise of “family fun.” All in all, more than 50 horses have died during the Stampede in the last 20 years. And in fact, despite this tragedy, more of these deadly races are scheduled through the end of the festival on Sunday!
Care2 member Tamara wants to see the chuckwagon race shut down for good. Will you sign her petition and let the city of Calgary know it’s time to end this barbaric tradition?
If enough of us speak out, we may be able to stop this needless tragedy from happening again.
