Tower Bridge: Lego Build Tips

At 4295 pieces the Lego Creator Tower Bridge is a daunting build, made all the harder because this is the last model they released before doing the sensible thing and labelling the bags to match the build notes i.e. Section 1 in the notes, relates to bags labelled 1 ….

This means that when you open the box (and you will need a LOT of space) you are faced with a vast array of bags.

Daunting without doubt, but there is hope ……. because the Bridge is symmetrical the bags are doubled up, so if you have space it is worth splitting the bags into a left/right divide.

I also found the following helped …

First, I ignored the three booklets, in respect of the order they suggested the build was done.

I figured that as the Bridge had quite specific colours I would reduce the sort time through all the pieces by building the more obvious sections first.

This meant I built the road(s), middle bridge, upper section and the bridge struts first.

Day One Build was taken up with these items and at the end of the day I put the bags containing the pieces back clipped together in pairs.

Day Two Build I started on the two towers, building them side by side:

I also took the plunge and opened all of the bags and tipped everything out on the table, so that at the end of the day building I took the time to put the pieces away in tupperware containers based on their colour!

No doubts, this was more than a tad boring and took a long time BUT the benefits on Day Three Build were worth it as it was so much quicker and easier to go directly to a pile that you knew the part was in.

Overall it took three pretty full on (6+ hour) days to complete.

The quality and detail is stunning.

The finished model is superb, well worth the time (and occasional frustration) and certainly worth displaying properly once completed.
