I wonder what Twitter are planning next eh? The recent change to @name from @replies is pretty cool, and makes a lot of sense, not least because it has been driven by user design, so having just read the Register I wonder what made them figure they needed the ex Google design boss?
Twitter has poached Google’s former visual design boss to take on the role of creative director at the micro-blogging site.
Douglas Bowman confirmed earlier this month he had quit Mountain View because he was peeved with Google’s obsession with performance data.
He said in a blog post on 20 March that he had grown tired of debating “minuscule design decisionsâ€.
Earlier this month Gawker kicked off rumours that Bowman would leave Google for a new gig at Twitter. Creative Capital claimed to have confirmed the new hire yesterday following discussions with Stone.
However, Bowman and Twitter haven’t made any official announcement about the planned move yet.
Up to now Twitter’s co-founder Biz Stone has held down the role of creative director at the firm, which is still scrabbling to find a business model that might generate profit off the back of tweets from celeb heavyweights such as Stephen Fry, Phillip Schofield and MC Hammer.
Bowman had hinted something was in the pipeline when he quit Google a few weeks back. But Twitter is remaining quiet about its new employee for now.
Bowman’s latest tweet, however, gives little away. His most recent bit of Web 2.0 navel-gazing simply reads: “Learn from your mistakes, but never dwell on them.”
