Had to say goodbye to sweet, lovely Hollie today. Old age (she was at least 14 possibly more as nobody at the rescue knew), and arthritis beat her in the end.
Everyone that met her loved her, she had one of those happy faces and wagging tails that you couldn’t not love.
Like many rescues her start in life won’t have been great and we adopted her she had lost most of her front paw and had an issue with her kidneys.
Not for one minute did that stop her enjoying her food, walks on the beach and nature reserve (in Spain) and beach and Cannock Chase here in the UK. She loved her food, her mates Tito and Tiggy who were brilliant with her from day one, and really enjoyed the cats, especially the donuts when they were newborns. Her mothering instincts kicked in and we always thought from then on she may have had puppies earlier in life.
Today is a sad day, and the ones to come will be hard but she had dignity and determination throughout her life, never more so than at the end.
She told us it was time: she was never going to walk Cannock Chase again (she went at the weekend for a short potter), wasn’t woolfing her food down, and wasn’t able to get to the gate to greet visitors.
She spent her last hours with us on her favourite bed in the garden listening to the world go past and barking at any car which came into the courtyard.
She leaves us with nothing but thanks, love and happy memories. Off now to meet Teo, Orla and Sophie who she never met, and catch up again with Saidi, Oscar and Fleur she starts her next adventures and goes with all our love.
